Biography
Heiti Talvik was an Estonian poet who wrote during the first half of the twentieth century. He was born on November 9, 1904 in Estonia. His father was a doctor, and his mother was a piano teacher.
Talvik’s first poems were published in the Looming literary magazine. His two poetry collections — Palavik and Kohtupaev — were published during the mid-1930s. He was known for his lyrical and romantic style of writing.
Unfortunately, Talvik’s life was cut short when he was deported to Siberia in May of 1945 during the Soviet Occupation of Estonia. He never returned to his home country and died in exile in 1957.
Heiti Talvik was born in the same country as fellow poet Viivi Luik. He was an important figure in Estonian literature and his work continues to be studied and celebrated today.
